Chicago, 1994. Luciana bandages a stranger, unaware that he is Ás Monteiro, a feared Mafia boss who demands her as his wife. When her fiancé and uncle sell her on her wedding day, Ás saves her, offering 30 days of marriage in exchange for his mother's surgery. She agrees and discovers that he has already paid for it. Amid betrayals and attacks, Luciana discovers the devotion behind his violence and confesses her love. The Carvalhos kidnap her. Ás wins a deadly game of twenty-one but is shot. They marry in an empty church and flee into the night.
