Rafael Mendes, a bankrupt, sarcastic underground veterinarian, is evicted from his crumbling apartment and hired for an astronomical sum by the mysterious noblewoman Catarina Alcântara to be the Night Guardian of Ashford Manor. His plan is simple: coast through his shift, collect the money, and leave. But when he accidentally enters a forbidden zone to save a mortally wounded Royal Abyssal Squid, he unwittingly completes the seal of an S-Class calamity—and the excess magic floods his body. Suddenly, the whole world believes a hidden legendary force has just annihilated the disaster. He keeps healing beasts for money, but the more he heals, the stronger he becomes, earning an A-Rank agent badge from the DMTC. As he investigates the manor's secrets more deeply, he discovers the terrible truth: it is not a manor but a decaying prison built over the souls of fourteen ancient guardians, barely containing thousands of calamities. He has been chosen as the sole heir to this power to end a centuries-old nightmare.
